Mayor’s Message

Mayor Cheryl Fuller

Our third monthly Community Conversation session was held at Turners Beach on April 20. Our thanks to the members of the Bowls Club for hosting Councillors, senior staff and nearly 50 residents and friends of Turners Beach. Topics discussed included dog on-lead and off- lead areas, footpaths and parking, safety, and planning. We also chatted about the 7 Day Makeover Committee’s future works and local government reform (possible amalgamations).

My sincere thanks to everyone who attended. Solutions can’t be found, and wherever possible, decisions shouldn’t be made, without hearing the voice of those who live and love their patch. That’s what these community visits are about. Please watch out for one ‘coming to a town near you!’.

Our next conversation is for Leith, Kindred, Forth and surrounds is Thursday 18 May, 7pm at the Forth Hall.

Notes from all sessions can be found on our website in the weeks following each session.

https://www.centralcoast.tas.gov.au/central-coast-community-cuppa-discussions/

Over the coming months Councillors and staff will discuss a broad range of topics including the future of the Penguin themed rubbish bins, our role in Childcare, our Community Health and Wellbeing Plan and the Local Cultural Heritage Study. We will decide on a course of action for Midway Point camping and work thoroughly through our Budget Estimates and our priorities and rates for the coming year.

We attended Anzac Day services across our community, we will be giving thanks to our Volunteers and speaking loudly on the issues of community safety and domestic violence.

And we will start in earnest to speak to our neighbouring councils and our community about local government reform. In the words of The Hon Sue Smith AM, Chairperson of the Local Government Board appointed by the State Government, “ We will be encouraging the sector to help shape the structure, role and functions of our councils, to meet the challenges and seize the opportunities Tasmania will face over the decades ahead” Central Coast stands ready to help shape that future on your behalf.

Until next time,

Childcare Centre Easter Excursion

What a beautiful day for an Easter excursion! The whole centre participated in an excursion organised in collaboration with the students from the community service class at Ulverstone Secondary College.

We left the centre at 9.30am with a convoy of children, educators, students, and prams, and headed to Anzac Park. The children participated in an easter egg hunt, decorating easter bags, and playing on a range of different play equipment, using their gross motor skills to challenge themselves.

The students set up an area for the babies with coloured shredded paper in a sand shell, adding plastic eggs, carrots, and bunnies. A bubble machine blew bubbles catching the children’s attention.

We would like to thank the students and staff that accompanied us on our outing and for organising the activities at the park. The excursion was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Responses will be read out at our Volunteer Week appreciation event.

Shared Pathway Etiquette

It’s great to see so many people making the most of the growing network of shared pathways across the Central Coast.

These pathways make it easier for everyone to keep active and enjoy this beautiful part of the world we live in, whether you’re riding a bike with your family, out for walk with the dog, or training for your next marathon.

To keep everyone safe, here are some common-sense pathway etiquette tips that we should all keep in mind when using the shared pathways:

  • Keep to the left of the path
  • Use your voice or a bell to let other users know you are nearby
  • Slow down in busy or narrow areas
  • Dogs should always be on leads
  • Pick up after your dog
  • Make sure you can hear what’s happening around you
  • If you need to stop, move off the path
  • Use lights or reflective clothing at night time

What’s Happening at HIVE

Told/Retold Exhibition now open

Told/Retold

Elizabeth Barsham & Allan Mansell

Saturday 25 March – Sunday 28 May 2023

In this exhibition Elizabeth Barsham and Allan Mansell reflect, from two very different backgrounds, on the stories that have been told and retold over the last two hundred years about the colonisation of lutrawita/Tasmania and its lasting impact on the palawa /pakana (Tasmanian Aboriginal people).

Elizabeth’s colourful oil paintings, with their humorous characters and seductive colour, obscure the darkness of the subject matter.

Allan Mansell tells stories of this land, its flora and the fauna in his prints – looking at what was, what is and what can happen. These stories are conveyed in his distinct visual vocabulary of simplified forms of echidnas, leaves, ants, snakes, birds and more.

Told/Reold is on display in the HIVE Art Gallery from Saturday 25th of March to Sunday 28 May 2023.

HIVE is open 10am – 4pm daily. General admission tickets to HIVE range from $3 for children and concession, $6 for adults and $14 for a family of four

Let’s stay in touch

Getting and staying connected

ONE of the Central Coast Council’s five strategic directions is a Connected Central Coast.

This strategy is about much more than just roads, cycleways and footpaths. It is also about enabling residents to stay in touch with each other and the Council.

The e-newsletter is produced each month and delivered free to email inboxes, to let everyone know what the Council is doing to make this a better place to live.

It would be great if you forwarded it to your friends, work colleagues and family members, and if you encouraged them to also subscribe. Click here to subscribe.

The Council is also utilising Facebook to let everyone know what is going on, and to let you get in touch with us. It’s the easiest way to find out what’s happening in Central Coast, so feel free to like, share, comment and get involved in constructive conversations about the future of your community.
